Stretch therapy, but make it personal

Led by a healthcare-informed movement specialist with 500 hours of yoga teacher training and a clinical background in recovery and rehabilitation — our stretch sessions are built around you, your body, and what actually helps.

More than just stretching

Stretch therapy is structured, guided work with a trained specialist — not something you do alone on a yoga mat and hope for the best. Sessions at Harvard Square Chiropractic are led by Alyson Hope, whose background spans over a decade as a healthcare professional and yoga teacher. She holds a Master's and Doctorate in Physician Assistant Studies and Medical Science, 500-hour yoga teacher training certification, and additional training in neuromuscular health and pain care — and she actively draws on all of it in every session.

Alyson describes her approach as healthcare-informed: the clinical knowledge she built as a PA informs how she reads the body, identifies areas needing extra care, and designs work that supports recovery, rehabilitation, and long-term wellness. Nearly a decade of formal yoga instruction shapes how she cues movement, breath, and body awareness. The result is stretch therapy that sits at a genuinely uncommon intersection of clinical rigor and movement practice.

Sessions are whole-person and trauma-sensitive. They can include hands-on assisted stretching, prop-based work, myofascial techniques, or guided non-hands-on stretching — depending on what your body needs and what you're comfortable with. You're always a partner in the session, not a passive recipient of it. Communication and questions are not just welcome — they're part of how it works.

Stretch therapy can be booked alongside chiropractic care or entirely on its own. No referral, no insurance required.

Is stretch therapy right for you?

Stretch therapy works well for a wide range of people and goals. You might be a good fit if you're:

  • Managing chronic tightness or recurring muscle tension that doesn't resolve on its own
  • Recovering from an injury and looking to rebuild range of motion
  • An athlete or active person wanting to maintain or improve performance
  • Someone whose flexibility and mobility have declined and want to reverse that trend
  • Dealing with stress-related tension held in the body (shoulders, neck, hips — you know the ones)
  • Looking for a regular maintenance practice that keeps you moving well between chiropractic visits
  • Curious about whether assisted stretching can help with something you've been managing on your own

Not sure if stretch therapy is what you need? Book an Initial Visit and find out. It's a low-commitment way to meet Alyson and get a sense of what the work feels like.

Your initial stretch therapy visit

If you're new to stretch therapy with us, your first appointment is a 30-minute Initial Stretch Session.

It's designed to give Alyson the context she needs to make every subsequent session as effective as possible — and to give you a real sense of what the work feels like before committing to longer or recurring sessions.

Your initial visit includes a review of your health history and current condition, a conversation about what you're hoping to get out of stretch therapy, and a personalized guided stretch session. By the end, you'll have a clear picture of what working with Alyson looks like and what she'd recommend going forward.

Your stretch therapist

Alyson Hope brings a background you won't find at most chiropractic practices. She holds a Master's and Doctorate in Physician Assistant Studies and Medical Science, with a focus on recovery and rehabilitation — and has spent over a decade working at the intersection of healthcare and movement as both a clinician and yoga professional.

Her approach to stretch therapy is whole-person and highly individualized, shaped by additional training in neuromuscular health, pain care, and trauma-sensitive practice. Sessions can include hands-on assisted stretching, prop-based work, or guided stretching without hands-on contact — whatever works best for your body, your comfort level, and what you're working through. Alyson's own experience recovering from injury informs how she shows up for patients: with patience, curiosity, and zero assumptions about what "progress" is supposed to look like.

If you have questions during a session — about what she's doing, why, or whether something feels right — ask them. That's not an interruption. That's the whole point.

In addition to her passion for helping others stay mobile, Alyson enjoys arts and crafts, reading, and taking her elderly dog, Winnie, on walks. She's always on the lookout for local recommendations.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Stretch therapy is available as a standalone service. That said, many patients find that combining chiropractic and stretch therapy produces faster and longer-lasting results — your providers can advise on what might work best for your situation.

First visit: Your initial session starts with a conversation — health history, any injuries or surgeries to be mindful of, what you're hoping to get out of stretch therapy, and how you're feeling that day. From there, Alyson assesses your baseline mobility through gentle movement before moving into a personalized stretch session. You'll leave with a clear sense of what the work feels like and what Alyson would recommend for follow-up visits. Plan for 30 minutes.

Follow-up visits: Subsequent sessions begin with a shorter check-in — any changes since your last visit, how you're feeling, what you'd like to focus on — and then move into the stretch work more quickly. Session length is your choice based on what you've booked. There are no wrong answers in either type of visit; everything you share helps Alyson help you better.

Something else, always. Sessions are designed to bring you into a stretch slowly and steadily, stopping well short of your maximum limit. The target is an amount where you feel the stretch and can still breathe easily and comfortably. Your body's response guides the work — if there's any sign of resistance or discomfort, Alyson adjusts immediately.

Comfortable, flexible clothing you can move in. Think workout clothes or anything you'd wear to a yoga class. You'll be on a treatment table, so avoid anything too restrictive or bulky.

No, though there's some overlap. Stretch therapy focuses on mobility, range of motion, and movement patterns. Sessions may include gentle myofascial work or manual pressure alongside stretching, but the goals and methods are distinct from massage therapy. The two can complement each other — they're just different modalities.

No — stretch therapy sessions are self-pay only. See our pricing above or visit our Insurance & Rates page for full details.

It shouldn't be. Alyson works within your range and comfort level throughout, and feedback is actively encouraged — if something doesn't feel right, you say so and she adjusts. Breath awareness is built into every session, both as a technique and as a way for Alyson to read whether you're comfortable. First-timers are very welcome; the 15-minute Quick Stretch is a low-pressure way to experience the work before committing to a longer session.
