Harvard Square Chiropractic Welcomes
Pia holds a Master's degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture, the oldest college of Chinese Medicine in the United States. Prior to that, she received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Connecticut.
She is licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Medicine, the Committee on Acupuncture, and is nationally board certified in Acupuncture, Oriental Medicine and Chinese Herbal Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Her past clinical experience at the Boston Medical Center's Pediatric Intensive Care unit and at the Dimock Community Health Center in Roxbury, MA, allowed her to integrate her knowledge of Western biomedicine and traditional Chinese Medicine in a conventional care setting. She is Secretary of the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Society of Massachusetts, and a voting board member.
In addition to her private practice in Copley Square, she currently works at the Martinos Center of Mass General Hospital on NIH funded Acupuncture research studies. These studies use functional MRI and Magnetoencepholography to investigate Acupuncture’s ability to create change in the brain on conditions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Past research experience includes work on the Tai Chi research project with Dr. Peter Wayne and Dr. Gloria Yeh at Harvard Medical School's Osher Institute; a Systematic Review on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome; and work as a research assistant at both the Josephine Bay Paul Center of the Marine Biological Laboratory, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
Her particular interest lies in treating endocrine imbalances and women's health issues such as thyroid disease, PCOS, endometriosis, menopausal syndrome, PMS, fibromyalgia and infertility.
